Olympic fever

This week, exactly one month before the 2012 Olympics start, the torch passed through Sleaford, Lincolnshire my local town. We knew without a doubt that we had to go and see it, as this is really a once in a lifetime opportunity.

According to the Olympic torch relay official website it was to arrive in Sleaford at 3.37pm. We thought that there would be a fair few people so decided to bike the 3km into town and to get there nice and early. Once we got into town we realised that ‘a fair few people’ was a bit of an understatement, there were thousands of people lining the streets. It was a really nice sight to see and to be a part of.

As we waited for the torch we started to think back on past Olympics and name where they had been. After about 10minutes we gave up and turned to wikipedia. (If you are interested these are the past venues).

Eventually after all the sponsorship vehicles had been past the woman carrying the torch came past. To be honest with you it was all over so quickly. I got a few photos and that was it.

The procession after her was nice to see with. It had the RAF band, local schools and local youngsters.

With less than a month to go now to the Olympics I must say that I’m gripped with Olympic fever and looking forward to the country getting behind the event.
